Ellen Hall was the seat of the Dykes
family as far back as the reign of Edward VI. The present house was converted from an even
older building by Leonard Dykes, one time Sheriff of Cumberland, when he married Grace
Salkeld in 1660, as his wedding gift. This romantic story has inspired the names of our
two barn cottages, Dykes and Salkeld.

These four star cottages are perfect for honeymoons,
special anniversaries and surprise weekends away, or those who quite simply like to enjoy
the best.
Open to the beamed rafters, the lounge areas are furnished with cosy chairs & settee,
just right for snuggling around the log burning stoves, TV, video and
stereo. (There is an £8 charge for wood & coal which should last two nights, if
you choose to use it.)
The mahogany kitchens are fully equipped for preparing romantic candle-lit dinners for two
and the galleried bedroom areas have four-poster beds with lace trimmed
linen, and mahogany furniture plus a second TV. Dykes and Salkeld cottages differ in size and layout, but the decor
and facilities in each are the same. |
